History without Psychiatric insight is formless. Herodotus, the father of all historians, characterized figures, from the
most ancient to the contemporary by
their likes and dislikes, by their loves and hates, their ambitions, frustrations, and their motives.
The Psychiatric Autopsy takes into account a multitude of factors, in regard to toxicology, pharmacology, anatomical
pathology, and the clinical events in the life of the deceased. The Psychiatric Autopsy is an analysis of the deceased person, with full consideration of their genetic and environmental background, personal experiences, documents
left behind, oral history, by relatives, friends, acquaintances, and witnesses.
The psychiatric autopsy could be best defined as the postmortem examination
of all the remains of the deceased, which permit insight and knowledge of
their personality structure, behaviour patterns and, most importantly, the
events leading to their demise.
Executors, administrators, or people with legal power over the estate.
People who helped with care or payment before death, unless it goes against a known wish of the deceased.
Coroners, medical examiners, other lawful authorities, funeral directors, and organ donation groups.
